Mel Saggers celebrated her seventeenth birthday by making her first solo
flight and went on to gain her Private Pilot's Licence. She spent all her
spare time around aircraft - washing them, assisting in restoration
projects, being an odd-job girl for corporate jet operators and helping out in Flight Ops and Air Traffic Control at Biggin Hill.
Eventually she saved enough money to complete her Commercial Pilot¹s
Licence in 2004. She flew corporate jets for two-and-a-half years before
joining easyJet, flying Boeing 737s out of Luton. Now, with 4,000 hours
logged, she flies the Airbus A319 and A320.
Although flying is her day job, Melissa continues to fly vintage aircraft
as often as possible. She helped restore de Havilland Gipsy Moth G-ABYA in
2002 and was eventually able to acquire the aircraft last year. She acquired her display Authorisation this year so can also be seen displaying the moth and other vintage aircraft at shows around Europe.
